This is from a building called 'Brouwershuis' in the olden days it was a beer brewery. After that it was a community centre of the village, marriage parties and dances took place in this building. In the summer it was for a period a youth hostel. Today it's a pancake restaurant and you can sit outside (when the weather is good) in the garden with a view of the river Maas. On the front you see bags with sand, that is for keeping the water outside of the building when the river Maas burst its banks. We think they lay there, so they can use them fast as the river burst its banks again. The last time it was in january of this year. Sometimes in the winter and spring when it rains a lot and the snow melts in the Ardenne Belgium then there is too much water in the river. The Maas has its source in France, streams via Belgium through the Netherlands and flows into the North Sea.
